2018 was a year with massive technology investment for e-Boks, which is now well into the process of replacing the engine powering its digital post solution. Healthy top line growth was achieved with pre-tax profit of DKK 17.4 million, and e-Boks was once again recognized as one of Denmark’s strongest brands. Foreign focus has increased.

2018 was a solid year for e-Boks A/S, with growth of just under 12% in turnover, and realized profit margin of a little over 8% as shown by the just-released financial statements for 2018. Group turnover for the year was DKK 214,6 million, a DKK 22.3 million increase on 2017.

“We can look back on 2018 as a year when we delivered on the top and bottom line, despite massive investment in new development. We achieved healthy growth in turnover, and the pre-tax profit of DKK 17.4 million is satisfactory, given our activities during the year, even though it’s a little lower than in 2017,” states CEO Ulrik Falkner Thagesen.

Geared for growth

Investment concerns replacing the mainframe systems that have served e-Boks since it was started in 2001, with a more agile and advanced infrastructure. Even though it cannot be seen from outside, hectic activity is going on, with revision of the entire technical platform. 2018 was a year of many changes, and e-Boks now looks forward to being able to reap the rewards of modernization in 2019.

“We spent a good deal of 2018 on gearing e-Boks for the future and are making massive investment now to be ready for international scaling. Switching to a new technical platform will give us a substantial advantage in terms of speed. We can work with more micro-services and faster launches, and we gain more breadth in relation to who we can work with,” explains Falkner Thagesen.

Internationalization in focus

Denmark continues to be the home front for e-Boks, but opportunities abroad are of more and more interest. International focus is a consistent theme of most of the projects that e-Boks is currently working on.

“We are proud that our many years of experience providing a public Digital Post service means that several other countries are looking towards Denmark. Internationalization is in focus in terms of everything we do, and we will base our business moving forwards on everything being scalable, making it easy for us to move into a new market,” says Falkner Thagesen. He is also delighted that users on the home market have once again voted e-Boks as one of Denmark's most trusted brands.

“We are once again listed as one of Denmark's strongest brands in Deloitte and Caliber’s latest Top 100 Most Trusted and Liked Companies survey, ahead of major conglomerates such as LEGO, Grundfos and ECCO. That's tells us that the public trust us, and that our product is relevant to their lives."

e-Boks employed 71 people at the end of 2018.
